NEW series starting this week

-Zip-It- Series We are starting a new series this week in our online group on the power of our words called "Zip-It". Take a minute to watch this brief intro video.

Over the next few weeks we will be looking at the words we use and how we use them. Do we use our words to encourage others or do we use our words to knock others down? Are you a source of encouragement or do you tend to be negative? We will be taking an inventory over the next few days to get a better picture of how we use our words.

  1. When you are with a group of friends, what kinds of things do you talk about? Would you say you speak more positive comments or negative comments in a group?
  1. Would you say that you tend to see things as “the glass is half empty” or the “glass is half full”?
  1. Do you tend to walk around with a scowl or a frown on your face or a smile?
  1. If you are married, think about the things you say about your spouse to others? Would you say they are mostly positive or negative?
  1. Would you say that when talking to others you portray your family members and situations in a positive or a negative light?
  1. When you tell others about being the parent of a child with special needs what are some of the things you say? Do you speak more positively or negatively?                                           

 

  1. What kinds of things do you say to others about the school system, your child’s teacher, therapists, or others who work with your child?
  1. When talking to your child’s teacher, therapists, etc. do you let them know that you appreciate them or do you typically complain about things going you are not happy about?                                                                                                                                                                                            
  1. What percentage of your comments would you say are positive verses negative? What percentage do you think those who know you best would say? What percentage of your thoughts would you say are positive verses negative?
  1. What kinds of things do you think about yourself? Do you tend to have negative “self talk”? (i.e.- “You are just stupid”, “You will never be able to…”, “You are not worth anything”.    
  1. If you have a disagreement with someone, do you always think you are right or are you willing to listen to their opinion to possibly see the situation in a different light?
  1. If someone does something in a different way from you, is your first immediate thought that they did it wrong?
  1. What kinds of things do you watch, listen to, read, etc.? Do you think that what you watch, read, listen to, affects what you think and say to others? How?
