Word For Your Weekend - Seeing Jesus In The Details - Part 2
A couple of weeks prior to Christmas I had an encounter with Jesus. It was especially beautiful because it involved my mom.
My oldest of three girls is my special needs love, Kate. While she is in a wheelchair, has seizures and is completely dependent on us for all her care; she is mine and marvelous. She is also very heavy. Due to a car accident years ago, my back is in poor shape and there are days that I just don’t know how I will physically get her out of her wheelchair once in our home. The pain can be unbearable at times.
On this particular day, I had gone to school to pick up my big kids and on the drive home I just began praying that my mom would be parked in the driveway. I had no opportunity to call and ask her to come and I hadn’t even spoken to her about how rough of a pain day I was having. All I knew is that in my spirit I was asking God for help. Supernatural help.
When I turned the corner to my street and saw my mom parked there I just had this overwhelming rush of the Holy Spirit. She was there. She was there to help me! The neatest part of this is that the next day my mom and I were talking and she shared that she’d had this constant nudge from the Lord that she was needed and was supposed to arrive at my house to help. She worried that she was not hearing correctly, but the Lord was relentlessly causing her spirit to be stirred and she got up and went as He asked. We both received a gift. She and I both witnessed Jesus in the details.
It’s in those details that we see the Holy Spirit move. It isn’t always in those dramatic worship filled moments when you hear music swelling that you feel the Holy Spirit…it’s often in the every-single-day events when He is there that you lean in and witness Him. Deuteronomy 31:6 (MSG) says, Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t give them a second thought because God, your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you. He won’t let you down, He’s right there with you…I just love that reminder in this verse. This experience was a faith booster for me personally and allowed me to remember that although He may not always provide my mom to be there to help me…He will always be with me. He promises He will.
Think about...
- Have you had a similar experience? Can you think back and recall a time where you couldn’t explain what was going on?
- Can you see how obedience on the part of my mom was a key factor in me receiving the blessing of seeing Jesus in that moment?
- Are you leaning in and listening to the Lord so that you are able to be used as His hands and feet in someone else’s life?
Prayer...
Lord, thank you for promising to never leave us and for always being right there with us. Allow me to see You in the details, to choose obedience to what You ask me to do and to find my joy in You and Your love for me. Allow me to be Your hands and feet today in someone else’s life. Amen.
