Impact Story: The Whaley Family

This month we invite you to meet some dear friends of ours from Kennesaw, Georgia...the Whaley family.  Kevin and Donna have one son, Parker, who is 13 years old.  Parker was diagnosed with regressive autism at age 2. He currently has PANDAS, a debilitating autoimmune disorder.

Tell us a little bit about things that you all three enjoy...

We enjoy hiking, swimming, traveling and spending time with extended family.

What was your family's initial response to Parker's diagnosis?

We immediately got in gear and started biomedical intervention. We have been on a healing journey for 11 years.

How did you first learn about Rising Above Ministries?

I [Donna] attended By the Brook in Monroe Georgia several years ago. I left yearning for more.

How has Rising Above Ministries impacted your life?

I became an Atlanta affiliate for Rising Above which allowed me to surround myself with other moms who were on the same journey.

Are there specific Rising Above events that your family enjoys most?

By the Brook is my favorite. Fellowship with other special needs moms and caregivers is a blessing. If we lived closer we would attend more of the family events they host each year.

Is there anything you have found especially encouraging on your special-needs journey?

Jeff, Becky and Jon Alex have shown me that my child is wonderfully made, with a plan and a purpose. Becky Davidson is a role model for every special needs mom.

Stories just like the Whaleys' are our reason for pursuing our mission to bring the love of God and hope in Christ to special needs families through support, encouragement, inspiration, and community.  We are so grateful for the support of so many donors and volunteers.  Your partnership makes it possible for Rising Above Ministries to carry out this vision both locally in the Upper Cumberland and around the world.
