How To Quit [Part 3] with Jennifer Greene
We’ve probably all heard the common phrase:“Quitters never win and winners never quit.”
In the first 2 parts of this series, I’ve explained how we can truly win when we let God turn this desire to quit into a fresh new beginning. You can catch up on those posts here and here.
So you might be thinking: I’ve quit.I’ve invited God into my situation. What is next?
I’m so glad you asked! Surrender doesn’t mean that we stop playing an active role in our future, but it does mean that we step back and let the Holy Spirit begin directing us.
So back to that thing you quit. Was it a role? A job? A responsibility you inherited or for which you volunteered? Something imposed upon you?Think about that thing right now.And then consider it in light of this verse:
The Lord, the Eternal, equipped me for this job— with skilled speech, a smooth tongue for instruction. I can find the words that comfort and soothe the downtrodden, tired, and despairing. And I know when to use them. Each morning, it is God who wakes me and tells me what I should do, what I should say.
Isaiah 50:4 (VOICE)
Go back and substitute YOUR THING for the phrase “for this job” in the first line. For example, mine would read “The Lord, the Eternal, equipped me for this role as Adeline’s mom.”
Wow, just wow!God, through the Holy Spirit, can help us know what to say and what to do.He has equipped us in our roles as spouses, parents, children, caregivers, leaders, friends, employees, and so on.He will give us the words to say which will comfort and soothe, and He will help us to know when to use them.
I don’t have to rely on my own intelligence, confidence, or ability any longer.God will be my source for those things.I can go from feeling overwhelmed to confidently peaceful.
In part 4 of this series, we are going to jump back to the rest of my list for this quitting process.Stay tuned, and in the meantime, I’ve included a prayer for you below.
Pray:Father God, I’m ready for a fresh new start.I’m tired of being my own source for everything. You are so much smarter and so much wiser than I am.You have EVERY RESOURCE I NEED.Help me to begin this process of relying on you moment by moment.Give me the words to say that will comfort and soothe when all I have is criticism.Show me the next step to take when I am confused.I trust in you.
