What is By the Brook?

By the Brook is a weekend created especially for moms raising children or caring for loved ones with disabilities or chronic illness. For the past 18 years, Rising Above Ministries has hosted this meaningful weekend, providing a place where these incredible women can step away from the daily demands of caregiving and simply breathe.

Every day, moms carry responsibilities that few people fully understand. They navigate doctor visits, therapies, sleepless nights, constant advocacy, and the emotional weight that often comes with raising a child with special needs. Many come to this weekend feeling exhausted, isolated, and in need of hope.

That’s why By the Brook exists.

Each year, moms travel from across the country to Cookeville, Tennessee to spend a weekend surrounded by women who truly understand their journey. Here, they are encouraged, cared for, and reminded that they are not alone. They find rest, laughter, friendship, and renewed strength.

By the end of the weekend, something beautiful happens. The heaviness many carried when they arrived begins to lift. Hope is restored. Hearts are renewed. And moms return home better equipped to continue loving and caring for their children with courage and perseverance.
